Following an incident in an Amazon warehouse in late 2018, when 24 workers were hospitalized after a can of bear repellant inadvertently exploded, Amazon is set to open its first dedicated warehouse to handle and store hazardous goods. These new facilities include designated storage areas for flammable goods, oxidizers and aerosols, with enhanced staff training to handling the hazardous materials, and all shipments from the facility will be handled by ground transportation. Measuring in at 500,000 square feet, much smaller than a typical Amazon warehouse, the facility is Amazon’s response to protect warehouse staff from potentially dangerous substances.
