Promptly following Amazon’s lead in announcing next day delivery on tens of thousands of items, Wal-Mart has responded by offering free next day delivery on 220,000 items, covering categories from nonperishable foods, toys and electronics. Next day delivery requires a minimum order of $35, and will be available immediately in Phoenix, Las Vegas and Southern California, eventually expanding to 75% of US households by year end. Wal-Mart also announced they intend to add several hundred thousand products to the program as it expands nationwide due to their investment in more efficient e-commerce distribution centers.
